Canon 70-200IS L Noise.
« on: October 25, 2007, 09:43:12 pm »

I've always heard my 70-200IS L "click" when I push the shutter down half way, or all of the way, but I've never heard a spinning noise coming from it.

Last night, while testing something, I noticed when I pressed the shutter half way down, I get the familiar "click" but I can hear the mechanism spinning in the lens. After I release the shutter, it continues to spin for about two seconds.

Can anyone confirm this as "normal" because I've not noticed the spinning sound or even heard it spin until last night? All I've ever noticed is a "click."

It's normal. A friend of mine has been shooting with an IS lens for 6 months before noticing the spinning noise. He was worried that something might be wrong, so you're not alone... Some IS models are noiser than others.

Keep in mind that the IS will have to work harder at slower shutter speeds, the noise is normal, and helps to eat your batteries.
