Status on photo application OSX Lepard readiness?
« on: October 25, 2007, 08:12:38 pm »

Dear all,

I was wondering if anyone had gone through the trouble of cheching the Leopard readiness of major photo apps and utilities:

- CS3 creative suite (including PS, Dreamweaver CS3 and InDesign CS3),
- Lightroom 1.2,
- Image print 7.0,
- PTgui 7.3,
- Autopano Pro,
- Helicon focus,
- Raw Developper,
- parallel 2.x,
- DxO 4.0,
- Silkypix,
- Capture NX 1.2,
- Super Duper,
- Softraid,
- NeoOffice,

That would be real useful.

Thanks,

Regards,
Bernard

Since it hasn't yet shipped, who exactly are you expecting an answer from? Beta testers?

Jeff,

On the application side, I trust software manufacturers to deliver accurate information regarding Leopard support.

What I am asking is whether each of these software already has a version that is said to support Leopard or not.

I could proably gather the information myself by going to every of these software vendor website and checking what their claims are, but I imagined that somebody had perhaps already done that.

Do you know about the status for Adobe products?

Regards,
Bernard

Well, the AppleStore was fast and Leopard has already landed here in Switzerland.

Bernard,
I haven't had the time to install it this morning... I'll let you know if I notice obvious problems. I only use Lightroom and Photoshop, though. I believe that SuperDuper is not yet compatible. Read the Mac sites like MacFixit.com, Macintouch.com or MacOSXHints.om.

I put it on (Upgrade) an old G4 Powerbook this morning and so far so good with CS3, LR 1.2 and Capture NX (cursory look), but it's early days.

So far the only issues are Software Update is not super reliable.  I assume there is quite heavy demand on it right now.  Also Time Machine has been disabled on Airport Airdisks, pending an update.

Typically there is normally a post launch rush of software updates from Apple and other vendors so I'll wait another 4 weeks or so.  If things remain stable I'll migrate (Fresh install) my MacPro and MacBook Pro.

So far so good.

I have been playing with Leopard on my MacBook booted from a cloned 800FW drive for a couple of hours.  So far, CaptureOne 3.76, CS3, Bridge, and Lightroom have worked flawlessly.  Photoshop seems faster ... probably my imagination.

I have also tried several other applications with no problems so far.

Adobe has published a PDF regarding its products and Leopard (here).

It looks like some users have problems with the Print module of Lightroom but on my MacBook Pro, printing is working fine (Epson and HP printers). Photoshop is also working as expected but I didn't try all the plug-ins.

...and according to that pdf, PSCS2 under Leopard will be "likely to encounter issues for which there is no resolution".....

As I wrote in another thread, I was planning to wait a bit before going with Leopard.  Seems I´ll have to budget a PS update as well before the new cat...

Further experience on Leopard today, no problems with Colorthink 3.0 or ColorEyes 1.3.  I launched but did not actually create a profile with EyeOne Match, but it appears to work fine as well.

Excel seems to run a little slower, as does word, but that could be just me since I switched to Numbers/Pages, and maybe have just forgotten how they run under Rosetta.

At this point I've been using 10.5 for about 8 hours now, and every application I use runs without problems.  Since I'm leaving town for a week, I recloned the BU drive back to match my internal drive, and have done an archive and install on the internal drive of my macbook.  Nothing critical on this computer anyway, it's just a subset of my desktop.

Lightroom definitely has problems with printing... On my PowerMac, the print module cannot be loaded and on my MacBook it looks like the selected printer profile is not used. On the published PDF, Adobe said that Lightroom can be problematic and - of course - it is. I also experienced cosmetic glitches with Spaces and Lightroom.

According to their respective editors, PTgui is OK but Helicon Focus doesn't work under Leopard, they are working on a fix.

I'll keep looking at the rest when they become compatible.

Bernard

FWIW, NeoOffice seems to be OK. I'm still in the experimental phase but Leopard is better than I expected.

Thanks Francois.

Have you noticec any difference in speed on multi-core machines when running several applications at the same time?

Bernard

Colorbyte has just recently announced that a Leopard compatible version of ImagePrint 7 was available for download.

Although I have no personal experience wit SoftRaid, it looks like it's problematic with Leopard.
