I got my Z3100ps GP (44") last week and spent some time struggling to update all the software. I have put down my findings in a new section on the Z300 wiki:

Z3100ps GP MAC OS

The WIKI is at:  http://z3100users.wikispaces.com/

I encourage all of you who have the same configuration as I do to keep this information current.  I think mine is right but...I have had the Z3100 for a week.  I did have a long conversation with an HP tech on the drivers and I captured most of it in my WIKI entry.  There are residual questions though.

This sub topic on the wiki is intended, of course, only for information specific to the Z3100ps GP. I think both the 44" model and the 24" model have the same firmware and drivers--but really don't know this.

thanks

(Note: we got the printer on Monday and cranked out two big prints in time for my wife's show on Saturday: a 36 by 48 and a 44 by 61. They looked great and we really don't know that much yet about this stuff. A wonderful printer!)

Thanks, Ed.  The wiki continues to get more useful as more is added to it.
I'd be curious, if you are so inclined to do comparison tests, what the difference proves to be in typical photographic output between the PS and raster drivers.  I followed HP's (now outdated) advice and removed the raster driver from my system and have never bothered to reinstall it.  When I spoke with HP tech support day before yesterday I asked the "color management specialist" I was dealing with if he could think of a scenario in which I would want to use the raster driver and he said that the PS driver should be equal or superior in all cases.  I'd love to hear from an actual user if this proves to be the case.
Welcome to the club,

There is some discussion of this by Tom in the topic in this forum started by me:

HP Z3100ps GP, PCL3 (raster) vs. PS (postscript) driver

I do want to test myself and will post the results.  My testing will involve Photoshop, not Illustrator or other programs which require PS.

The PS version accepts 4 or more color documents but is processed to 3 color via the built in Adobe RIP. The printer takes over the three color data at this point, which is the same where ever it comes from, driver , raster driver, or other.
There will be slight differences from the raster driver, as it will send a spool file via the driver / system level where as the rip needs only to be sent  the data from the application, all relevant containers, links etc. The differences between the PS rip, and the non -PS driver should be very little if any. I am not happy that some HP people are still stuck in the nonsensical mode that for photo printing you need a rip. On top of that the PS version is all but a full feature rip , it's advantages are for accepting more format types, large IP networking, but not at all for better color repro.....
