3800 and print length (again)
« on: October 14, 2007, 01:16:46 pm »

I have just started doing some panoramas.  I have done a few prints on 17x22" paper and am waiting for a roll of 16"x100' paper.  The question is: Is the max print length of 37.4", the length of the printed area or is it the total length of the paper?

In the driver you can define a maximum length of 37.4" for the paper size. Since you can't put the printer in borderless mode for this custom size, the actual max image length will be slightly less than 37.4". As I recall it's minimum 0.12" margins for the top and bottom, so the max image length should be 37.16". You can technically feed much longer sheets to the 3800; the rest of it will simply feed out unprinted.

Thanks for the answer; I wanted to be sure that any excess paper length would be ejected.

Thank you very much for this answer
I was thinking to get this printer [3800]
I was searching about a printer that can print larger than that but i didn'r find rather than 7xxx and 9xxx models which are very expensive, so then i was confusing between 3800 and 4800, and i found that even 4800 is little over priced, just i hope to find a printer that can print larger than 17" width with price $1500 or less.

Well, the 3800 and 4800 are quite different printers. Besides the clear price and size/weight differences, there are some feature differences, the big one being that the 4800 supports roll paper whereas the 3800 doesn't. But the 3800 has a newer screening algorithm and can hold both PK and MK inks at the same time.

Keep in mind that the 4800 is being replaced by the newer 4880.
