My buddy has the BH-55 on a GT3530LSV, and that seems like a better match. The head is large so I think it might "overpower" the smaller 2 series legs, at least in appearance.

I say if you're shooting lighter/smaller lenses, go with the BH-40. Otherwise, go up a step to the GT3530LSV and BH-55 combo.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Mostly shooting with a 1Ds MKII / 5D and usually lenses up to 300mm

Do you think the 3530LSV is warranted?

Edit - Forgot to ask - the 3530 LSV is video isnt it? Can you just remove the video attachment?

Never mind - I bit the bullet and jut ordered the 3530 LSV with the RRS BH-55.

Great choice!

The reason to order the LSV version is to get the three leg version (fewer leg locks, more sturdy) but still get something tall enough to be head high when shooting. The plain GT3530 is too short, and they didn't make any three leg versions tall enough except for the video version. You just set aside the video bowl attachment and use the included flat plate (no center column). The GT3530LSV is the same dimension as the G1325 which I shoot, just lighter with better leg locks.

Let us know what you think when it arrives!
