Snow! Do these work?
« on: October 05, 2007, 09:21:28 am »

Hello.

After reading the thread on here about abstract images I decided to have an experiment and see what I could come up with.

I am surrounded by snow, I wanted to try and capture a different view of it, these are panoramic macro shots, 9 or more images in each one stitched together. They are obviously massively reduced here but native print size as shown in photoshop vary around the 1m size in width. There is a massive amount of detail full size, ice crystals on the snow surface visible.
I thought they'd look quite nice at full size printed on canvass, of course they could just be rubbish but it was a nice experiment. I haven't tried stitching macro shots together, good way of getting a lot of detail.

Comments or suggestions greatly received.

Thanks.
Mat.

Very interesting.

I find the first one the strongest, but I would like to crop out the dark area at the left, like this:

I really like them - particularly the first and third. I definitely agree with having them printed on canvas. Definitely no coating, either.

Thanks for the comments!

I agree, the first is very strong, I was trying to get the ridges of the snow going diagonally across the image. My favorite at proper size is the third, the area on the right is really nice, like the sun shining through the layers of the snow. The last is very big, 12 images, almost 1.5m square, I took two rows of pictures with the bottom of the top half in focus so there would be a narow band in focus through the centre, it works quite well at full size. I took quite a few but they take ages to stitch together!

Thanks again for the remarks.
