Canon Camera Service????
« on: October 04, 2007, 05:59:17 pm »

I have a Canon iPF5000.......the support from Canon printer division has been
abysmal, to say the least.
I have a Nikon D2x that has given me nothing but problems, this is the second one, and am considering making the move to Canon.
If their camera support is anything like their printer support I may have to rethink
that decision.
I would like to hear from Canon users about their service experiences, and their opinons on the quality of their Canon cameras and lenses.

Thanks,
Greg....

I am a member of the CPS program, and in my experience, the Canon camera service is excellent. Cameras and lenses are back in less than a week, and the charges are reasonable. (Since I am still shooting with EOS 1-D Mark I and Mark II bodies, and they are getting elderly, I have a lot of recent experience with CPS service.) It's also fairly easy to talk to an actual human service tech on the phone, and they're helpful and don't rush the conversation.

I was, frankly, very surprised about the negative reports on the Canon printer service. Must not be the same people.

I'm not a CPS member, ,but nevertheless service from Canon's Jamesburg NJ facility has been excellent, camera's repaired in under a week, the early flaring 24-105 replaced on the spot. Could not ask for more.

I also have an ipF5000, and while it's setup and use is not the easiest, the service I received from Canon has also been excellent; for example a defective roll feed unit replaced overnight, ditto recently, a defective ink cartridge.

The camera and printer repair are separate entities, and are not related.

I have had excellent service from CPS, no question. And for a problem I had with my ipf5000 I also had excellent service. No problems here.

I am *not* a CPS member.  But when my 1D Mk2 fried a circuit board it was repaired free of charge even though it was out of warranty.  And it I got it back in 4 business days.  I'm in southern California.

I am a CPS member. Sometime it's good but also I have had very bad experience here in The Netherlands. Last time I have to wait for 5 weeks before I got my lens back. An other lens I brought for reparation I got back after 4 weeks. They didn't do anything with it and I have bring it again back! Etc.

Have been using Canon camera gear for 38 years and service has always been excellent.  Am CPS member, but don't think that is a factor except for expediting repairs and the occasional loaner.

I'm also a long time member of CPS and here in Australia they're the best !

The back-up from them is second to none.

I had some problems with an IPF5000 early on, but the service from them now is very good,

Service on cameras & printers = two completely different ballgames.  No connection at all between them.

You don't have to belong to CPS to get great service on Canon cameras.  And Chuck Westfall even reads what people say about their cameras on the Internet.

But in my experience, there's nothing you can do to get good service on the printers.  Much longer phone waits than Epson; history of narrow interpretations of warranty (see Wiki); phone techs seem to have trouble with some basic problems (like not knowing what  printer's messages mean); service contractor has trouble getting parts, scheduling appointments (very nice people but not too well organized & not in very close contact w/ Canon).

In case of serious problems on 17" printers, Epson just exchanges & refurbs 'em.  Canon doesn't do that - they keep sending our the service contractor, over & over.  Can result in a lot of down-time.
