MacbookPro powering up a leaf aptus
« on: September 28, 2007, 05:16:02 am »

hello

hi, usually I don't shoot theatred, but since I got a new laptop, I tried to mess around with it. I found out that I can't shoot theatred with the macbookpro, does it have anything to do with lower firewire port power output ?

I'm now trying some reinstall just incase it is a software problem.

cheers

It can be that the voltage is too low to connect. Try in a first step to use a shorter FW cable.

Check in the "System Profiler" (Apple Menu ---> "About this Mac" ---> "More Info" --> "FireWire") if the system finds the back: it should show up there.

Best regards,
Thierry

Which MBP are you using?

The 17" is known to be problematic with starting up the back. You have to have the MBP plugged into a wall outlet to be able to start the back. If you do not the starting voltage drops too much when hooking up the back to be able to start the back. Once it is started you can even take out the wall outlet (though I see no reason why since the back drains the battery really fast).

The 15" doesn't have this problem (I own the 15").

ok, hope to add to the knowledge base.

I did a reinstall and a few restarts later, I'm now connected. I'll report if I find any funny things later on.

I use a Macbook pro 15" with an Aptus 65 and the very long firewire cable from my old Eyelike back and have no problems at all.

The 17" MBP will normally work OK until the battery charge drops below 50%.
If you connected the back when it was fully charged it'll stay connected until the battery goes below 35% and then it'll disconnect.

If the MBP is plugged in then you shouldn't have any problems with connection.

I have the MBP 15" and I also find that it must be plugged into the mains otherwise the Aptus 75 will not connect.

This is with the long firewire cable supplied with the back.

Once the back has connected, then the cable can be removed and the tethering continues to work.
