Farewell to MFDB
« on: September 21, 2007, 08:58:13 am »

Hi guys

I am leaving the ship.
I am selling my MFDB outfit and ordering a Nikon D3.

It is too little to gain using MFDB for what I shoot and who I shoot for.
It is to cumbersome and I loose a lot of moments using H2/P30+.
The files are also downsized every time.
The difference on print and web is way too small to justify all the lost moments.

If it was very professional models and very glossy mags I was shooting for;
then the MFDB wold work its magic.
But that is not the case - today.
I sell my MFDB outfit for € 25.000 and by the Nikon outfit for € 10.000 and
spend the last 15.000 on traveling, shooting and marketing.

If I get jobs where MFDB is needed, I rent or borrow it.

I am not sure about the D3 contra MK III.
Will do some test, but my gut feeling tells me that the D3 will
outperform MKIII for what and how I shoot..
I think 22 Mb is to much for the lenses and the chip size.

Test will show.

So for now - have nice MFDB lives.

It has been interesting to be a part of all this, but it also have taken
to much time from my shooting.

And it has been to technical and too little about pictures.

So long guys

PS

I probably will be too curious not to peek in here from time to time.

Come on now, you'll be here again before you know it

MFDB is like [span style=\'font-size:10pt;line-height:100%\']Pepe le piu   [/span] some times it stinks, but it has its charmes too

If you are down-resing your files every time, then I can understand your decision. Good luck with everything.

The last job I did, I upped to ~88MP using genuine fractals. The print will be 5 metres high! We don't all do the same work, that's for sure.

Good for you! I'm shackled to a MFDB because I need all the technical lens movements I can get, but as a practical photographic tool for 99% of applications a full frame DSLR takes some beating.

What you said makes sense.  Good luck to you.

My only comment is if the D3 can do what you need from a camera, then even a D2X(/s) should be able to fulfill your requirements.  D3X will be another story.
