Epson 1270 printer DOA
« on: September 19, 2007, 11:57:57 am »

i have a Epson 2200 that i use to print photos and a 1270 that I use to print text ( emails pdf's etc.) and contact sheets-no pnotos. The 1270 has a mind of it's own and works when it wants to not when I want it to.. I had a crazy idea to use the 2200 as a replacement for the 1270 and replace the 2200 ( which prints great pictures) with a 2400 or a 3800. The largest print I make is usually 12x18.
As I writing this I'm not sure it makes sense but I appreciate any coments anyone may have.
PS.Is there any big difference between the 2200 amd the 2400?

Thanks

Gene, the big difference is the inks--the 2400 uses the K3 inks and they do make a difference.  I have an old 1280 but just don't have room for 3 printers so I use the 2200 and 3800.  I don't know if it makes sense or not either, but I use the 2200 for text--since I have ink enough.    When I run out--I may just buy one of the cheap printers for text.

However--the K3 inks make a huge difference in mono prints--and certainly in color too (no more metamerism in the monos and I print WYSIWYG as per Andrew Rodney and Jack Flesher who gave me that nice info before my printer got here).  There are many other differences but that's the major reason I bought a 3800--and for the print size.  I'm sure others will chime in with important differences to them.

BTW--you will probably be better off money wise to buy the 3800 with ink included than buy the 2400 and replace it with like amount down the road.  That seems to be the accepted course if you have the room for the 3800.  I love my prints from it.  I think the only 'con' is the fact that it does not accept roll paper, only sheet.   I bought a cutter and cut my own from rolls if the size I want isn't available.
