H1 Dummy..
« on: September 19, 2007, 03:00:54 am »

So I put my H1 on aperture priority and single point focus

I point the camera at my subject and get focus (and correct exposure)

I then recompose the image so the subject is not smack bang in the middle of the frame

and take a shot

trouble is the shutter speed changes as I recompose the image rendering a risk of miss exposure

yes it is possible to press the tiny AE lock but I find this non intuituve and anyway my thumb is not free for button pressing becuase it is gripping the camera like a vice to combat mirror bounce

Is there a user mode

'keep meter settings from the last time the AF locked' buried somewhere in the unfathomable to luddite me user modes menu

Hi Sam,

I guess you could try a few things...

1) Re - the mirror bounce.

If you can get your H1 updated then introducing the 50ms shutter delay makes a real difference.  Plus you do not really notice anything in shooting.  (Count to 50ms in your head for a test!   )

Then you can release that vice like grip and hit the AEL button!

How about buying one of the padded wrist straps?  Less grippage then?

2)  If you find the AEL button in the wrong place you can also program the USER, Mirror UP and DOF preview to do the same thing.

3) Doesn't look like there is such an option for retaining exposure locked with AF.  But I see even in Ap Priority you can adjust the exposure by using one of the wheels.  So if after you recompose you lose a third of a stop, you can flick the wheel to 'get back' to where you wanted to be.

The Exposure is reset after capture unless you say so otherwise in custom option No.23

(This is all in the manual by the way!!    )

But anyway, the option you mention could be a useful addition.

Trouble is my actual application is using the camera in a waterproof housing where the controls are hard to access

I need to point - focus -  recompose shoot - one button

I just don get the manual at all - anyway I used it to light the fire

I spose my other option is braketing

-----------

Thanks for reading

In terms of the upgrade it is all very well unless you live in the sticks

1) hire camera for a week £500
2)be in for the courier (lose a day working)
2)Send off my camera
3) Be in for the courier (lose a day working)

total cost £1000?

Usually on long exposures I just hit the Mup then shoot

Mmmm understood... Bit tricky being in the housing!

Without being too cheeky... I guess this is another Hasselblad advanatge - being able to upgrade the body firmware just through using FlexColor.  Worth thinking about... no?

Also, would it be easier to drive / train to London for service or too far?

Do Teamwork do it same day or do I have to deal with some snotty unkowns

I am braving the smoke in a couple of weeks

There is no doubt H are getting thier act together - of course not T/S yet

a shift lens and that wide and multipoint AF and 800ISO could get me to go to the dark side if I got a good trade in for my sinarback

Dear Jo,

This is nothing new: the Sinar m can also be updated without having to send the camera to the dealer or to the factory, since years. Even Sinarbacks' internal firmware can be updated this way.

The Hy6 will of course be able to do the same.

This is normal standard today, IMO.

Best regards,
Thierry

My H1 is in for upgrade. It is currently away for 3 weeks. It has been sent to Sweden for the upgrade. I would suggest arranging backup when you upgrade and make sure you can miss the H for a couple of weeks.

They can do the upgrade at Hasselblad in Elstree Sam.  Talk to Paul Gould there.  Maybe they can do it double quick for you?
