Sensor dust removal
« on: September 18, 2007, 12:06:06 pm »

The fitting of sensor dust removal mechanisms now seems to be coming
the normal practice with most manufactures of dslr's.  This is a most welcome
step imo.

They all seem to work on some sort of vibration of the anti-aliasing filter to literally
shake the dust off and apply an anti-static charge at the same time. Some, such as Canon, do this by electro-mechanicsl vibration of the filter and the dust is collected by filters surrounding the sensor. Other manufacturers use ultra sonics to vibrate the dust away.

There must be a time when the collection filters become clogged with dust...this may take a very long time to do and be dependent upon the dust condtions the camera has been frequently used in. Probably the shutter would have gone south by time they are filled or something elso gone amiss I just dont know?

Only theorizing and wondering out of interest.
Perhaps someone has similar thoughts?
