I am once again looking for a pro lab to make some large canvas prints for me. By large I mean around 38 x 47.5 inches. I'll be gallery wrapping the canvas on stretcher bars. The lab has to coat the canvas with a UV protective coating as well since I'll be displaying without glass. I'll do my own stretching.
I'd prefer this done on an Epson 98xx because one of the images has some gamut issues in the reds and my research shows that the Epson is must likely going to handle this better then the HPs or Canons at this point in time. Please, I know everyone has their favorites that they like to support, but let's not argue about this -- that's not the point of this thread.
I'd prefer a lab on the east coast of the US as I'm tired of the time delays in shipping back and forth across the country.
Next, I'd prefer a photographer do the printing. I've found dealing with art reproduction people (giclee people) to be an exercise in frustration. Art repro. may use the same equipment but the goals aren't the same and that's difficult for me to explain to them. Hell, if I were any good at verbal communication I wouldn't need photography so much!
And finally of course, I have to be able to afford it. Labs asking more than about $18 USD/sqft for coated canvas are out of my league.
Whew! A lot of requirements I know, but I think it's better to just say it rather than hoping someone will read my mind. So given all that, if anyone has any suggestions for a lab, please let me know!
