Backing mat technique
« on: September 13, 2007, 09:43:30 am »

Does anyone have hints or pointers on using backing mat and a front mat for photo mounting?  My front matting has been fine so far, but I'm getting too much buckling of the print, so I figure having a foam core backing would help.  Before I get down and sticky with it, I'd like to hear some do's and don'ts.  Somebody suggested glueing newspaper on the back of the backing mat to counteract the pull of the photo trying to curl, is there something to that?  I'm particularly concerned about getting the photo correctly aligned, esp. when glue is involved.

Thanks in advance,
-Lars

Have you seen the Camera to Print tutorial? At the end, Michael demonstrates mounting, matting and framing on a print. I believe he uses foamcore as a back mat for this particular print.
