I'm a registered beta tester and have been to the Phase download site - how do you get this? I have not received any info from them. Thanks...

It's under the Downloads Menu/Capture One 4

Read the Release Notes - First.  No LCC on Macs.

Are Sessions gone?  Does it want me to Import images into it's Library like Aperture?  I see you can simply point to folder elsewhere, but I liked the Session workflow.  Keeps everything nice and neat.

Now it seems you have to identify a folder to put your processed images.  I liked the sessions because the processed files went right into the Processed folder.  If you forget to change it then you have to go track them down somewhere else.

Just a first impression/question.  If I'm not seeing this correctly please let me know.

Some more questions:

Can't seem to control individual RGB colors from the Levels or Curves.  You know, pick RED and make adjustments, then pick BLUE, etc.

Checking focus is a bit cumbersome.  You have to pick from the Navigator "+" sign the Zoom to 100% option, the it zooms the whole preview.  Once zoomed, panning around is easy, like Photoshop.  Is there a quick double-click somewhere to zoom in and out?

Is Pattern Noise Suppression no longer an issue?  I don't see that, at least not where it used to be.  This applies only to view camera use.

I'm not familiar with the Levels sliders at the top of the Histogram.  When and why do you use these?  I'm happy to see Highlight and Shadow sliders.  That will make a lot of people happy.

I processed a few files and compared them to 3.7.7 and they look identical, which is good since those files are right on.  I made no levels adjustments and used the color picker from each version to pick the color from a WhiBal in the shot.  Although the numbers are different the result is the same.

Is there a way to use a second display for thumbnails?

Will some kind and brave soul please confirm that the beta will install OK in Win XP side by side with v3.7.7, leaving the latter entirely intact and operational?

Well, after testing on my G5 (dual 1,8 1,5Gb Ram) I must say, I feel the program much slower than 3.X. In general the interface and the tools feel slower. I see the "focusing... warning too long) The processing time is about the same.
I also find the interface very dark, too much contrast with white text. If you customize the toolbar to see the text the text is BLACK   Sorry but I cant's see a thing... The text in the tools is white and in the toolbar black and everything agains a dark gray background....
Anothe question is the projects. They are gone. Now is like a simple browser. Personally i liked the projects concept a lot...

I dont't know, I like C1 very much but at this point, this beta seems very dissapointing to me. I supose it will be Lightroom.... I know it's a very first impression but...

I'll try on my laptop (macbook pro dual 2,3). We'll see...

The Mamiya ZD + backs are not listed among the list of supported cameras.

Could anyone try?

Thanks,

Regards,
Bernard

Am I the only one who just wants to shout "THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES ON!"?

Here's my letter to phaseone after trying out v4:

TOO LITTLE TOO LATE!!!!!!

Love it!!

Capture One seems like Quark.  They were at the top of their game sitting back collecting money.  They got slow and got blown away by everyone else.

You mean the Emperor who circulated some sanctimonious garbage recently about how Hasselblad's setting up the H3D as a "closed system"  was so damaging to the interests of the "medium format community", and yet never provided any support in its Capture One software for any backs made by Hasselblad, Leaf and Sinar when Capture One was the preeminent raw converter? Gee, I wonder why they could not do that?

WOW, the beta just made a beautiful 5D conversion which I could not get right with DPP, ACR, etc. no matter how many times I tried!
(before, the highlights looked wonky because they were too hot)

So I guess this beta has already paid for itself :-)

And the colors look gorgeous to me -- way better than ACR. Probably as good as DPP. I'll have to do some more comparisons...

I would have to say that it is probably more the fact that Sinar, Leaf, and Hasselblad refused to give Phase their proprietary information on their raw files more than anything .....   I cannot see any reason that these 3 companies would give Phase their file information.
