H1 mount to RZ adpter for Phase backs
« on: August 28, 2007, 09:58:00 pm »

Hello All,

Anyone use the plate made by Leaf to mount H1 made backs on an RZ?  More particularly using Phase one backs.  I know PPR has it and they have succesfully used it with Aptus backs.

I would like to know if anyone is using it with Phase backs?

Thanks in advance

It does not work properly with Phase backs.  Works like a charm with Leaf backs tho.

For whatever reason, Phase backs must be "awaken" prior to the actual capture and require more cables than Leaf does.  The Phase adapters I have seen have two cables, one to the lens and one to the adapter plate or body to wake up the back prior to shutter release.

A buddy of mine brought over a "two shot" cable release from Capture Group (I think) that he uses with Phase and Large Format cameras.  We were able get the Phase back to work with this cable release and the Leaf adapter.  However it would not work in Mirror Up mode.  So if you ever use mirror up then its worthless.  If you shoot strobe and don't mind using a cable release then it would work.  However, this cable release is a $400 purchase from my understanding.

The Leaf RZ Adapter kit is a good deal tho.  ~$700 for the plate, RZ focus screen, gold lens sync cable and the body cable which allows the camera to be triggered from the computer.  We've been using it with RZs and Leaf backs since it was released with great success.

We offer a cheaper solution to the "two shot" cable.  It requires a standard cable release and is a two step process, but it does work well.

Rick,

You had a solution for years.  You could have used and old film holder adapter plate that was made years ago.  eMail PSS on these forums.  He has an AFD mount back that he uses on an RZ Pro IID with no cables at all.  from what he says it works flawlessly for him.  So much so he is selling his whole AFD package.

Chris,

When you say two step process you mean you need to hit two seperate cable release buttons?  If sop the $400.00 is worth the price for the Kapture group.  Have you had any experience with this new Leaf plate?  I recall you writing to Steve about borrowing it.  any experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
