I take most of my images with top-notch lenses on low-asa-high-resolution films, e.g. traditional b/w films. After film development, all processing is digital.
Some years ago, after many tests, I decided to buy an Imacon scanner because neither the Nikon nor Epson nor Minolta scanners allowed to capture all details and highlight tones from my negatives and often overemphasized grain. I am spoiled, right, but as my landscape prints are large image quality is somewhat important, that's why I spent a fortune on a scanner.
But now, as digital sensors and cameras are getting better and better, I am considering to sell it off and buy a DSLR, not only to replace my analog EOS bodies but also to use it as a negative scanner for 35mm negatives. I know that some people do that, probably with a very good macro lens.
How is the quality when you "scan" traditional b/w negs? Not in theory, but in practice?
