Photo Galleries in San Francisco

I'll be in San Francisco staying downtown (Union Sq. area) end of Oct. I'll shoot what I see but am very interested in visiting some galleries specializing in photography. I'm open to any type of photography so any that push the envelope on subject matter and techniques are welcome too.
Any recommendations?

Take a walk down 3rd street past Moscone Center to Rayko Photo Center.

A fun place that supports local photographers.

Besides the photo collection at SF MOMA on 3d St, don't miss the major galleries specializing in photography at 49 Geary nr Market (Fraenkel, Koch, Scot Nichol, & often Wirtz).  There's also a sort of co-op photo gallery on 2d flr.

(RayKo is interesting, but it's a photo center that shows amateur/'undiscovered' work.)

Besides the major SFMOMA photo shows, there's always a selection from the collection on exhibit.

ARTworkSF is also on the 2nd floor at 49 Geary.  I know this because my night photography will be part of the show "Nocturnal Visions" at ARTworkSF. Unfortunately, it will only be running through the month of September. So I'm afraid it will be down when you're visiting San Francisco.

Andy,

You must be a night owl.  Your night photography is fantastic, my attempts rarely turn out.

Ed,

Thanks for the kind words. Your landscapes of California are fantastic. I especially love your shot of Garappata Beach. If you're ever back in the Bay Area and would like join us for some night shooting, please send me an email.

While I've never been to it, a friend of mine has visited Rodney Lough's gallery in San Fran.  I enjoy many of his images online.   If the rest of his images and their presentation are as stunning as the one my friend has hanging over his fireplace, it would be worth a visit.

There is a Sugimoto exhibition currently showing at the new DeYoung in Golden Gate Park.  Highly recommended
