Epson R2400-CS3-PC.

I am using a calibrated monitor (Eye-One Match 3) with the following settings:

Native White Point; Gamma 2.2; Luminance 100.

In the CS3 print dialog I have chosen:

a. 'Photoshop Manages Colors'.

b. Printer Profile has the most recent calibration selected. (Is it possible to make the Print Dialog select this automatically?)

c. Selected 'Document' (Adobe 1998). Should I choose 'Proof'?

d. Under 'Page Setup' I have chosen 'ICM' and ticked the box 'Off [no color management].

e. Proofing Paper Semimatte as this seems to be the only one that is close to my 'Archival Matte Paper' that I am using.

All of this results in dark prints with extremely blocked shadows. Nothing remotely close to what I'm seeing on my monitor.

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

Many thanks.

Hello,
Your item b appears to be wrong:
"b. Printer Profile has the most recent calibration selected. (Is it possible to make the Print Dialog select this automatically?)"

You should be selecting the icc profile for the given paper+printer that you are using for this particular print. For example, if you obtain Epson icc profiles for your 2400 printer from the Epson website, and you load some Epson Premium glossy paper in the printer, and you still have original Epson inks (K3) in your printer, then you would choose this type of file from the pulldown menu:
SPR 2400 PrmGlsy Photo.icc
or SPR 2400 PrmGlsy PhotoRPM.icc
or something very similary (I own the 3800 so names are slightly different).
This is an icc profile for that specific type paper with that model printer and mfr inks.
Write back if you need help with the icc profile downloads and such,
Debra

Many thanks to both of you.

Pretty much sorted now.
