Slideshow on 30" display doesn't work!
« on: August 15, 2007, 09:07:05 am »

I tried to play a small (25 Canon CR2 files) slideshow on a 30" Cinema Display but the screen remains blank. Music is playing and the "repeat" indicator appears at the end of the slideshow. Playing "in-window" is working OK and exporting is also fine.

I had a look at error messages in the console and found that LR puts a message every time a new photo is - supposed to be - displayed:

....
2007-08-15 14:15:40.936 Adobe Lightroom[321] *** <QCGLCIImage = 0x1C382A70 | type = CIImage | dimensions = 2560x1600 | buffer = 0x0000-0x0000 | target = GL_TEXTURE_RECTANGLE_EXT | ID = 0>: Image dimensions (2560x1600) are bigger than max texture size (2048x2048)
2007-08-15 14:15:40.937 Adobe Lightroom[321] *** <QCGLCIImage = 0x1A131630 | type = CIImage | dimensions = 2560x1600 | buffer = 0x0000-0x0000 | target = GL_TEXTURE_RECTANGLE_EXT | ID = 0>: Image dimensions (2560x1600) are bigger than max texture size (2048x2048)

....

So it looks like 2048 is the maximum size (Cinema Display is 2560x1600).

Am I the only one affected?

By the way, reducing the display resolution to 2048x1536 fixes the issue.
The Mac I used is running Mac OS X 10.4.10 (8R218), Dual G5 2.0GHz, 2.5GB of RAM, more than 150GB of free HD space,  ATI X800XT (256MB) video card. Lightroom is v 1.1.

I have had the same problem with a Dell 24 inch screen. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. So far I've assumed it was connected with preview processing - once the 1:1 previews are available it seems to work.

Nigel,
I was contacted by two engineers from Adobe and they confirmed the bug. The fix will be rolled into the next revision of Lightroom.

In my case, it looks like my video card is not powerful enough to handle a 2560x1600 resolution(ATI X800XT - 256MB of RAM) - I made sure that 1:1 previews were available. The bug was introduced with Lightroom v 1.1. I can easily run slideshows from my MacBook Pro or use a lower resolution, although in this case, text rendering is not that good.

Thanks for your help!

I have a 30" Dell with the resolution set at 2560x1600, however I'm using Vista with a 512meg video card. So far, no problems with Lightroom using the slideshow. Hope it gets worked out for you.
