GM Eye-One display 2 puck Versions Rev A & Rev B
« on: August 04, 2007, 09:56:28 am »

I just got an Eye-One display 2 calibrator.  My puck is marked REV A.  I saw REV B mentioned on the Xrite website.  Anyone have a REV B puck... and what's the difference between the two?  Mine has the newer one color  paint job but is marked Gretag Macbeth and not Xrite...

Speed. The B version is a little faster at scanning on an i0. Short of that, not much difference. FWIW, they are up to Rev D I'm told (I have an A and B version).

Can you upgrade the puck or do you just have to buy a whole new package?  Is the quality of the calibration any better with the newer pucks?

There's no upgrade that I'm aware of.

Other than having the instrument recertified

As they say, an i1 which has had its share of bumps may not be the instrument it once was ...

A brand-new Rev A is pretty old stock, methinks.

Edmund,

Would a REV A puck running the most recent software do a less accurate job calibrating my 23" ACD than one of the newer i1 pucks?

Hi, I also bought a brand new Eye-One Display 2, which is also a Rev A. Hadn't paid any attention to it, I just noticed it during the product registration on the X-Rite site. I would think it doesn't have real impact on the quality of the profiling. (I bought mine from http://shop.colourconfidence.com.)

The original poster was asking about an i1 display, the colorimeter, not the spectro.

I have both Rev A and B Display-2's (one that's older than an A!). All operate just fine.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about the i1Pro spectro - the i1 Display 2 colorimeter should be fine.

Well I just got my questions answered... the REV of an i1 puck is determined by the source of the components used in the manufacture... not the age of the unit.  There will be REV A units and REV B units etc. all released at the same time... depending on where the different componets for manufacture were sourced... no difference in performance.
