CS3 Photomerge stitching problems
« on: July 31, 2007, 08:21:26 pm »

I'm having difficulties with CS3 Photomerge stitching and wide angle images.  Specifically, Nikon 12mm source images.

A pair of full-sized NEFs shot with a longish lens will stitch beautifully, but a pair of wide-angle shots of the same pixel dimensions won't.  Specifically, I don't see the "aligning layers based on content" and "blending layers based on content" notifications during wide-lens stitching.  The results mirror the lack of those processes, ie  alignment usually looks fine, but blending simply doesn't happen.

I theorize that wide angle source images require more remapping calculations than long lens images and I'm seeing memory management issues with CS3.  Reducing input image size seems to help, but not always.  As does re-starting PSCS3 and closing Bridge.  In other words, employing memory reducing strategies seems to help.

I have 2 GB and the files come from a D200. Is this enough memory?
Anyone else seeing these problems?
