Mamiya 645 AFD Autofocus settings

on the mamiya 645 AFD2, the AF sensors look like | + |. you can choose with a CF to have it only use the I I sensors or only the + sensor. if you have it, what are your experiences with it, is one better etc..? unlike canon/nikon AF, the cross sensor isnt better than the straight ones.
