Camera bar for Canon 5D and 400mm lens?
« on: July 21, 2007, 07:50:56 pm »

I have a Canon 5D with a RRS L-bracket and a Canon 400mm 5.6 lens.  I get quite a bit of wobble whether I mount the camera to the tripod head, or if I use the lens collar (which has a RRS lens plate).  I have looked into using an RRS camera bar and their clamps, but they are not practical since I change from landscape to portrait, depending on the subject.  Is there a company that makes dedicated camera bars for certain lens/camera combinations, or a camera bar that will adapt to changes in base height of the lens collar and camera?

You need to figure out exactly where in your setup the wobble is located.  I'm guessing that a bar is not the answer; it's more likely to be a better head or something else in the system.
