I would like to put a link in our business web site to a Lightroom HTML gallery. That's easy, but how do I put a link in the gallery to return visitors to the original site? Any ideas please?

I´d certainly like to know that as well...

One workaround that I´ve used is to let the link to the gallery open a new window that the visitor can then close after seeing it, and find the first page is still open in its own window.  Writing the link this way will do the trick:

[a href="Album URL here" target="_blank"]Link text here[/a]

(I´ve changed the bracket style to prevent the forum engine to treat it like a live link. Of course the usual HTML "smaller than"/"greater than" style brackets must be used).

Thanks Per, that seems to work OK, but it would be better I think to return via a link, no?

Bob

All I've done is to use the Contact Info field in the HTML Gallery template. In the Contact Info field I enter 'Return to Main Gallery Page' and in the Web or Mail Link field I enter the URL of my gallery index page. You could of course return them to your home page or wherever you like by entering the appropriate URL.

This of course means that you cannot have your email address on each gallery page, but I thought it was more important to have an easy return path to the gallery index page than to have my email on each page.

Example here

Yes, that works just fine (great images, too!).  Far better than my own makeshift method.

And, with spambots all over the web, not having your email address displayed everywhere is becoming a necessity anyway....

Taking this one step farther, is there an easy way to add more than one link to the bottom of each image? Thanks for any info...(http://cloudland.net/photogalleries/2008calendar/index.html).

Tim, I lost track of this topic and didn't see you question until now! I'm no expert, but have muddled my way through and edited the html code produced by Lightroom to add some text and other links to my gallery (not published yet). I don't think though that this can be done within Lightroom.
If you can write code then it can be done or else get someone to do it for you.
By the way, I like your images too!
Cheers, Bob.

Bob,

You could just embed the Lightroom Gallery in a web-page that included the links to anywhere you like.  Embedding the Gallery is pretty easy, I did it using information I found here: Bluefire Blog. The only problem so far is that the embedding methodology doesn't work with Firefox, although it works fine with IE and Safari (both OSX and Windows)

I created a generic HTML/js template that includes the embedding code.  Now when I want to update my galleries, I just recreate them using LR, and copy the template HTML page into the top level LR gallery folder, as well as replacng the LR created .css style sheet with one of my own, and upload the folder to my site.

I can update or replace content on my site in something like 5 minutes using this method, and the LR pages work seamlessly with all the other pages on my site.

Thanks for this Mark. Strangely, I couldn't get your portfolio up even in IE (my usual browser is Firefox)??

Bob,

Do you have the latest Flash plugin loaded in IE? I have found that you have do this separately for each browser installed on your system.  I have tested this extensively and I am confident that it works.... other than with Firefox.

A very easy way to add content is via Server Side Includes:

For IIS: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/203064

For Apache: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/howto/ssi.html

You'll need to directly edit the HTML.  Here is a simple example

<html>
<body>

<!--#INCLUDE FILE = "header.htm"-->

....... Lightroom Genrated Content . . . . .

<!--#INCLUDE VIRTUAL = "/includes/footer.htm"-->

</body>
</html>

FILE include expects the page to be in the same folder  VIRTUAL include will handle relative paths.

If you want to change page layout, including adding links, to the gallery, just edit the index.html it creates.  For example on a default gallery, add:

<a href="/main.htm">Return to Main Site </a></p>

To add a link that says "Return to Main Site" pointing to a page called main.htm anywhere you want.
