Hi everyone,

I am realitivly new here in this forum, been reading a little bit here but never posted anything until now. I am a photography student getting ready for the convertion from a student to a photographer. I have been working on my own web page for the past few months, my fyrst web page in fact. I have been asking my famly and friends what they think about my page and have gotten some good pointer from that. Now I kindly ask the residents of this good forum the same thing.

Please comment on things you see that might be taken better care of, something that irritates you, any thoughts at all on the web page are very welcome. The webpage is not the final version, there are some small holes in it, hope they are tolarable.

I am sorry about my spelling, I am a native Icelander living in Denmark, my english is a bit rusty.

You web page works very well for me.  Not to complex (nor too simple), nothing annoying, just right.  The one additional thing I wish it had was a small line of text below each landscape saying where it was taken (since I'm often curious about such things, in case I find myself in that part of the world again sometime).

I especially love your black & white snowy landscapes.  Beautiful!  I know it can be difficult to get the contrast to one's satisfaction in such shots, and you've done an excellent job of it.

And no need to apologize for your excellent command of the English language - it's far, far better than my command of Danish or Icelandic!

Thank you Lisa, a short description with each image is a very good idea.

About the snow photographs, most of them were made back in 2005 when my photoshop knowledge was not at its best, I have reprossesd them OFTEN but never been fully satesfied until now. Im glad you took notice of that.

Well I'm off making attemts on how I should set up the desciptions by the images, Im very thankfull you took the time.

Your English is fine, and so are your images. In the following thread, you may find the comments on a few other web gallery designs also applicable to yours:

Egill,

I like your website and your photos. Lisa's suggestion of a little text with each photo is a good one.

I have followed the thread that Chris mentioned and agree with most of the ideas there, and it was a pleasure to see that your site avoids most of the annoyances (and just about anything involving Flash is an annoyance for me    ).

My one visit to Iceland was in 1974, and I am eager to get back.

Regards,

Eric

Thank you Eric, I am also very eager to go back home. You never really know what you have "untill you loose it", or in my case "until I moved from it". I am going on a 4 day trip in Agust with a noter Danish photographer as company, very mutch looking forward to this trip.

Alot has chanched since 1974, to buy food in Iceland is expensive, one of the most expensive places on earth to do that I'm told. But apart from that, I think Iceland has not changed that mutch landscape wise

Egill, the thumbnails on your "environment" page are not functioning. Otherwise, I agree that a title or short description would be nice for each image. Perhaps you could include a short bio or personal information on your contact page as well as whether or not you sell or license your images and information on how one would go about doing so. Your self-portrait is quite interesting as well.

Thanks for the replay! I know my environment gallery does not work, I am working on that now. I am not planning on selling any of my work, the main purpus of this page is to present my self to future costumers.

I also like this selfportrait

Thanks again, Egill Bjarki

Egill,

Like the others, I like the simplicity of your site. My only complaint is that the right arrow no longer advances when the last photo of a gallery is on the screen. Either it should be taken off that page, or it should link to the FIRST photo to give the viewer a chance to rebrowse the images.

Nice job!

To the second part of the posting title, "How would you design your webpage", I have to say that I really like the new templates available through Adobe Media Gallery as part of Adobe Bridge.  I especially like the one labeled "Left Filmstrip" and plan to use it as soon as I can.  This template allows for viewing of individual images or a slideshow.

Thanks Elja,

I just finished updating the page. I made it smaller so suit smaller resolution screens and put up more photos. I have not writtain a description on any of the images yet, but the plan is to do so.

Thanks every one, really helped!

I have just recently finished revamping my site (Richard Smith Photography). I tried to do much the same thing this thread and the other one referenced talks about; make the site clean and unobtrusive but visually attractive so the photography stands out.

I also think only the most important text should be on the main pages. On my site, I put the long winded stuff in pop-ups (or .PDFs) so folks can find them if they want to but can easily ignore them as well.

I have studied at a lot of photographers web sites and have decided that flash is usually a distraction.

Someone mentioned the Jalbum. I use it for my galleries and like it much better some other galleries I have tried. I think it's very good and the price is just right (free).

I enjoyed your site very much and please don't apologize for your English.
