Photoshop Extended (CS3) and Epson "halo" issues.
« on: June 25, 2007, 06:49:01 pm »

I'm getting the same "Halo" issues that epson/adobe/apple had back in PS 9.0.1 on a brand new Intel Mac Pro with Adobe Photoshop Extended (CS3), the latest drivers for an Epson 9800, and the latest firmware.

Anyone else getting these problems? They seem to appear a lot in skin tone gradients as orange/yellow/magenta casts.

PS: Here are links to the 9.0.1 issues, they appear very similar to mine...:

I have read that CS3 has issues with all of the K3 Epson printers and will not work well with them.

I don't think this problem ever really got fixed. Look at this discussion:

The trick is to force colorsync to use the generic rgb profile as the default for the printer. Or you can try making it the default printer, but I prefer to force the default profile to generic rgb.

Let us know if this works for you. I'm sure there are many with the same problem, they simply haven't noticed it.

Ummm, not mine.  CS3 works perfectly well with my K3 Epson printers.

Yes, I too had the "halo" problem before anyone knew it was a problem nearly 18 months ago immediately after installing the Epson driver for a 7800.  After 3 days I resolved it with the "generic rgb profile" workaround - that Roy  pointed to on this forum.  Since that time I have further delved into it for others and due to personal curiosity.  At the moment, I believe it is not an issue of being the default printer, but occured after the initial install of the Epson driver software.  Until manually changed via the colorsync utility, the driver only looked at one profile location, that is the Epson plugin with its "hidden" standard profiles, and not System>Library>ColorSync>Profiles.

I still don't know for certain, but try generic profile switcheroo routine in the referenced thread and see if your halos disappear - I bet they will.

Good Luck,
Ed

Thanks everyone for the tips, both the "default" printer setting, and the generic RGB "switcheroo" work separately. I went for the generic RGB route and all the prints are now spot on!
