State of the HY6, ZD back, Paris show report.
« on: June 20, 2007, 04:19:24 am »

I went to the Paris MF show on Monday. This is my worm-eye view of the market.
It was very low-key, held in a pavillion of a japanese garden adjoining a museum that displays color autochromes.

The interesting bit about the show was the quality of the images on display: Very detailed, including some taken in the garden by the various reps.

- Mamiya ZD back was on view. Rep said he just moved 10 of them. French -language brochure were available.  This is a real shipping product.

- Leaf version of the Hy6 was visible and just about functional, taking picturesl. Rep said camera is now being integrated with the Leaf back. This product still needs a shakeout, is at least 4 months from being usable, although Sinar might be further along. I didn't see the prism finder.

- Hasselblad had a strong presence.

- A Phase dealer was there; what more can I say ?

-  I didn't see any Sinar backs at all, maybe I missed them somhow.

- I saw the Cambo bag/bellows/XY shifter for the Canons and Mamiya. This appears to be the best solution at present to do shift/tilt for both platforms. I think Neil has one. Price is around $1500.

Well I can't see why not, as it is the same mount, although the Schneider lenses offer a fairly small image circle so I'm not sure what gain is there for a sensor larger than 24X36mm.

They make adapters for MF lenses - RZ/ RB/ H'Blad, 645 Pro...

I found the frame and plate at BH Photo, but they don't seem to have the dedicated bellows?

By the way, I understand that you need a dedicated plate to locate correctly the body, which would mean that a Mamiya 645 would probably require a - currently non existent - different plate? Not sure though.

Regards,
Bernard

i use the X2-Pro w/ a 5D and some Digitars (60, 80, 120). very sharp, good construction, geared movements. it appears to only be available for the ZD, which is a bummer. I'd love fot he AFD2 +zd back to work w/ this device. they do make an adapter for other Mam lenses, but I've never seen or heard of one for the 645 body. the mount for each camera centers it to the front standard - the cambo website does not list for mam 645 body. also - calumet has them instock, where as B&H it's a special order.

I heard the very same number from my dealer as well, from his hands-on experience with the Hy6, er, AFi, with Leaf in Israel.
