A little help with PM5?
« on: June 14, 2007, 06:00:50 am »

Hi,

Still getting to grips with PM5. I'm trying to make a ICC for HM Photo Rag 308gsm on a Epson Pro9800 MK using PM5 and an OI table.

printing the linear & 9.18 IO chart with no colour management throught the epson driver (both charts look good) set to:

Velet FineArt
1440
Uni-Di

Running through PM5 with

Profile size large
Paper-coloured Gray
LOGO Colourful
D50

In Profile Editer i'm running the Linear chart through Gradation Corrections and saving.

Here's what i'm getting

as you can see, it's not very smooth....

TIA

k, i tried printer profile on i1 match. using a Pro3800 and TC918 the profile was better but still not as smooth as it should be.

i'm now wondering if the IO table is borked.

A little help with PM5?

Some thoughts:

1. I generally use the Atkinson 1728 targets and sometimes build profiles via Eye One Match, which uses the same color engine as ProfileMaker (I wrote the article you listed above in your second post) and I've never seen a gamut plot that looks so choppy. Even when I did some test targets using the 918-patch chart, I didn't see anything like that.

2. Have you run your Eye-One through the Eye One diagnostics tool?

3. Have you tried measuring a chart by hand?

thanks,

i will try by hand soon. i think it's the IO table as when doing the targets and using MT i'm getting some dE's of over 2 for the same patchs.

will look at getting another IO and retesting

That profile is dead. Serious problems.
Printer or spectro hardware failure or operator error.
I would check the printer too.
