Sludgy prints
« on: June 06, 2007, 08:28:33 am »

Can anyone help? Image files exported from LR as TIFFs (ProPhoto RGB), then adjusted in Photoshop Elements, subsequently appear very sludgy on the prints. The colours are really murky and horrible. What am I doing wrong?

Images exported from LR then printed without going through PS are fine. Also, images adjusted in PS that have not been imported by LR are fine. I use a Canon 20D.

Thanks to anyone who can put me straight on this because it is preventing me from using LR at all.

I can never remember how much 16 bit support is in Elements - but I know it's not as good as recent versions of 'full' Photoshop. Unfortunately 99% of my Photoshop experience is in CS2 and CS3; I have Elements 2.0 somewhere that I got with my 20D, but I never installed it.

ProPhoto RGB isn't really suitable for use in 8 bit mode; if you have to drop to 8 bit to work on the files in Elements, try Adobe RGB instead. Does that help?

I have not had that particular problem but i do note in general that printing from LR produces slightly "mushier" prints that from the Canon utilities.
