HP APS manual needed...
« on: May 30, 2007, 09:31:27 am »

Hi there,

we will receive a HP Z6100 next week for a 14 days Try-Before-You-Buy period.

Although we will use the printer ith an EFI Colorproof XF RIP is would like to take closer look at the APS offered by HP as an addon. I've read quite a lot of stories on how good or how bad the solution is. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a look at any manual in order to find out a bit more about the options and standard procerures...

Can anyone here provide an operation manual (PDF?!?) of HP's APS for Z printers?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Lorenz

There really isn't a manual other than a few instructions on how to install the program. Everything else is in the program with simple instructions as you use it. Basically, it will calibrate/linearize your printer and then make one of three sizes of patches. Of course there isn't any reason to use the two smaller patches just the largest one with around 900+ colors/greys (the basic version has the smaller size patches). It prints the targets, reads the targets and saves them to computer and/or printer in about 30-40 minutes. Will save in either D50 or D65 color temp and in either RGB or CMYK if you have optional PS version I believe. Needs a 17x20 sheet minimum to profile on and will adjust targets to fit paper width so no wasted paper. The program will also calibrate your monitor much like the eye1 display calibration device. Again, simple step by step interface.

hi doug,

thanks for your answer. actually i found pretty much what i was looking for yesterday with the help of "mistyping" the z6100 on the hp website. entering z3100 led me all athe way to several "tips & trickss" pages/links at hp plus a link to the APS microsite where i was able to download the current version – which works fine in demo mode without the eye-one :-)

my questions a solved - we will give the printer a try first without APS and if it turns out to be more efficient we will opt for the APS.

again - thanks for your input.

regards,
