photoshop9 cannot read some tif files
« on: May 30, 2007, 04:34:13 am »

it happened several times in the last days, that i tried to open tifs, which before have been saved with photoshop cs2 , or copied with bridge,- and that ps displays the message that it cant open the files, because tehre is some missing of end of file.
with lightroom or in apple preview i can open these tif files, save them again without any changes and than ps will open them.
this happens too often now on two different harddrives.... so a writing error of the HD hardly cannt be the reason.
what idea do you have abot that?

Could certainly be an issue with your copy of Photoshop not writing the data correctly IF you can open them in other applications. It could also be the sign of a ram issue but I'd suspect the other app's would follow suite when saving.

now i found the reason:
if i allow lightroom to write changes into XMP data the tif files are updated each time i change anything in lightroom. this leads fast to the error that some files cannot opened anymore in ps, but still in lr.
if i turn of the XMP feature everything runs as allways. dangerous to use it..... cause although i can restore the tif data, the layers are lost. lr allways mix them down.
