Canon 24-105 zoom stiff?
« on: May 25, 2007, 12:58:27 pm »

I just received my new Canon 24-105 L glass lens, and from first pics I'm happy I sold my 28-135 & bought this.  In fact it's the last lens I need to complete my kit.  No, really!  (Well, I might want a tilt-shift one day, but...Just kidding, honey.)

One thing I noticed is that the zoom mechanism is noticeably stiffer than my 17-40, 70-200 or the old 28-135.  Is this normal for this lens?  When I first mounted the lens I was afraid there was a problem with it.

It is a little stiff, esp. at the wide end. I believe this is normal.

Just got my new 24-105 yesterday, and it is just like you are saying.  Very stiff zoom ring, esp at the wide end.  Guess it will take a bit long for me to get used to.  But otherwise I am extremely happy with it.
