Photoshop CS2 - Missing History
« on: May 21, 2007, 06:02:42 am »

I'm a little perplexed about this problem. Yesterday I was at a friend's place editing a couple of images in PSCS2. I had to go out for a while, so I shut down the computer. After about an hour, I returned and tried to continue from where I had left off. Surprise: under File>File Info, there was no item on the left hand panel for History. I checked Preferences, and sure enough, under General, the History Log radio button was checked >Both, Detailed. I went back to File Info and in Advanced, saw that the history log had indeed been saved as metadata. I opened the history log text file, saw what exactly I had done, and finished editing.

So what is the mystery of the Missing History? And how to get it back?

Thanks,
Kumar

History [in the History pallette] is only ever visible for the current open session. Once you close the file, that's it. No more undoing, even if you've saved the History in the log. That's purely for reference.

This is where LR differs as it edits metadata and not the actual file.

That isn't what I meant. What you're talking about is the History pallette. Go to File>File Info when you have any image open. You should see Description, Camera Data, IPTC information... One of those should be History. If the history log was enabled for that image, it will show whatever commands have been performed on it earlier. If the history log was not enabled, it will just say something like Image Opened at whatever time you opened the image. But the Hstory item itself is missing here.
