Large Print Problems
« on: May 14, 2007, 07:10:20 pm »

I am able to print up to 18x24" prints with no problems.
I am unable to print a 24x36" print.
Lightroom indicates that it is rendering the print...then sends it to the print que... and then ....nothing.

Windows XP Pro
Dell precision 380 Dual Core with 4gb ram
HP Designjet 130 printing on HP  premium gloss
Rendering intent...Perceptual
HP profile set for above.

I actually have the same problem (or similar). I can print small images on an Epson 7800. However, when I "Edit in PS" for an image and then upres it, sharpen with Photokit for a 360dpi 13x19 and then save back into LR I can now no longer print that image.

If the image is even larger (a high res pan for instance) the image won't even show in LR.

I've resigned myself to using LR for much of the work but then exporting to PS for final work and then using Qimage (as always) to print the large files.

Of course this means that I have a partially finished image in LR and then a file scattered around somewhere of the final image which is not an optimal solution. I'd love to have a better solution to printing in LR.

Could it be you've reached the LR limit of 10,000 pixels wide image?

Thanks. Could be as I didn't know of this limit.

The frustration is as the OP states that LR looks like it renders the image and sends it off to the printer. It just never appears or occassionaly for me prints a blank sheet with the identity plate on it. No error message or anything helpful.

I have since done some experimenting and have found that the limit (for this particular print) is 18"x28" centered on a 24x36" sheet and I have to re-start Lightroom before printing. Otherwise, it will print nothing but grey. It helps to open the print que dialog box and watch as it counts up the print size. If it terminates before getting over 1mg, you know you have to down-size a little and try again.

The photo that I am trying to print is the "Kruger Sunset" shot listed an the site below. Not a lot of detail so I am assuming that a more detailed photo will require a smaller foot print. More experimenting ahead. I hope this problem is addressed in the next version.

You might try resizing to 240 PPI. That will keep you under the 10000 limit.
