Sinar LiveVideo backs
« on: May 10, 2007, 11:46:34 am »

Sinar has two new backs, the 75LV and 54LV, that feature "Live Video" (this year's hot new dSLR feature!)

This puzzles, me, because they seem to be using Dalsa Full Frame CCD's, which AFAIK are not capable of video output in the way that interline CCD's and some other sensor technologies are.

What are the spec's on this live video output? What is the frame rate? Does it operate with purely electronic shuttering, or by repeatedly cycling the mechanical (between the lens) shutter?

Live Video in this case doesn't mean live video :-) It just means that you can see a live image when tethered to a computer, just like you can in the new P+ backs. It does not mean you can record live video to your memory card.

There is a frame rate specification, which reflects how steadily the video refreshes.

I believe I have just been told that the + backs only have live video when tethered (please correct me when I am wrong).

Do the LV backs provide live video on the display as well?

Yes correct as for PO.

The Sinar LV backs have Live Video as well when tethered, not on the display of the back.

Refresh Rate is not know from me yet, but I shall inform as soon as available.

Here the answer to the refresh rate question for the eMotion LV backs:

- 1 image/second for the overall image
- 2 images/second for the detail window when focusing.

Best regards,
thierry

I use Live Preview on a P45 (not plus, I've upgraded just that feature) and I was thinking how imature this feature is on Phase One. Looks like someone broadcasting from the Moon...
Although, Phase has up to 15fps.
I wonder how might be with 1fps...
And on eMotion this is called not live preview, but Live VIDEO...

I am puzzled about the claim of 15 fps, although I have no info about what Phase One is claiming and not having seen it myself.

What I can say is what I heard and what colleagues have seen: I could hear the same comment as below from "ctz".

Sinar does claim real 1 fps, respectively 2fps for the focus mode. And I would suggest to compare the two side-by-side, then you can make your opinion yourself. There is no special intention by calling it "Live Video", but to say that it is a "live" and a "moving image" which can be used for composing and focusing.
