customising web galleries
« on: May 08, 2007, 10:15:46 am »

Does anyone know if it's possible to customise the web galleries. I've taken the standard flash gallery, I can knock out the menus and change fonts, etc from the XML files but I can't seem to get a handle of doing some other things.

Firstly I would like to knock out the entire top bar, the slideshows will be viewed within a webpage structure not as a seperate page on it's own and the top bar is totally superfluous.

Secondly, how do I place the gallery within a table? Can't seem to get it to work unless it's a page on its own.

If anyone can help me out on these I would appreciate it.

I realise that I'm asking more from the gallery than it was intended to be but lightroom is a good way to generate fast web galleries, I just want to be able to use them within an existing webpage format rather than as a seperate webpage on its own.

Ben

Look at http://blog.bluefire.tv/ - these entries are by the people who put together the Flash galleries. And see http://seanmcfoto.com/lightroom.

Forget that lightroomgalleries website - there's little content (on html anyway) and a lot of Google ads.... Not sure it's still there.

John, with the greatest of respect, why not take a look before being so sweeping - its' still there, minimal ads (1) and it brings together a lot of ideas into a simple format, along with tutorials so you can understand what is going on...I have no affiliation at all with the site. Sean, who you quote below links to it from his blogs as well...

Incidentally, this may also help others not so in touch with their coding

I have not been able to connect to lightroomgalleries recently, hence my comments about it having disappeared. Last time I looked it had one template and Google ads top, left and bottom of the page. But if you want to know why I'm so scathing about that site, read Gio's comments here. It's a pretty accurate summary of what that site's author was up to.

John - I stand corrected. A shame really as it has helped in my quest to better understand LR and what it can do. I look forward to v 2.0!

Best Wishes

Been having great fun with the galleries now that I know how to customise them, only annoying thing is that once I put the gallery inside a webpage it has to have a set size in pixels, looks great on my desktop, bit small on my widescreen laptop. I'll post up the webpage when I've finished with it so you can see what I've done.

Many thanks again

Thanks John, the implementation with Slimbox on that site is very nice.  Also extremely small, so shouldn't be any issues with dial-up users.

I normally don't like flash, but I'm preferring it more and more these days for photo viewing on the web.

Matthew is pounding hard on those galleries. He's up to 1.3 in the SimpleViewer gallery.

The trouble is, he's pounding so hard he's already on version 1.4. I'm waiting until things settle down before piggybacking on his effort and outputting for SlideShowPro.

That's still cool John. I've added suggestions for creating menus. It should be easy, I'm packing for holidays (leaving in the morning) otherwise I would tackle it. Using the pre-existing code for Contact and copy/pasting it and adding a link number would actually do it. It would be necessary to copy/paste the definitions, the right pane code and the bindings in galleryMaker.xml and then call them in transformer.xslt

LightroomGalleries.com Updates

I just posted a new flash template for you all. Hope you like it. I will be adding some more features to it in the future.

Hey guys, we are looking for suggestions for existing web templates that you would like seen converted into Lightroom templates. Please let us know what you guys are looking for in Lightroom template. We with gather all suggestions and try to create something that fits all your needs.

Also, i have started working on writing up some more tutorials. They take a while to write and i am also still trying to figure out how Lightroom's code works, but i should have some new info up soon.

Also, Matt at theturninggate.com and i have been working together to try to solve some issue people have been running into. One main one is that the flash galleries (custom ones) dont preview in Lightroom. I contacted Andy Rahn the programmer of the web module and this issue came up for them as well, but they never fixed it. Hopefully in the next version of Lightroom, or in a patch.

If you have questions, comments, suggestions we monitor our forums all the time and either Matt at theturninggate or i will try to help you out.

No, we have not had any server problems since the site started up. Im not sure why you are not able to connect. What happens when you try to connect? do you get a blank page or an error?

I would like a gallery that only uses CSS instead of tables.   An implementation of slimbox into CSS would be great.
