Purchased H3D-39
« on: May 04, 2007, 12:21:54 pm »

Hi all,

I'm expecting delivery of my new H3D-39 with the 28, 50-110, 150, and 1.7 mutar in the next couple of days. I'm looking for any information I can get from users. Anything to watch out for? I've used flexcolor with my Imacon 848 for the last few years.

I'd welcome insight from anyone who has gone before me down this road.

Thanks....alanshoot

Can we assume you already know about the many reports of the front element falling off the 50-110? Thought that was worth mentioning in case it is news to you.

These reports are extremely exagerated: only a few are reported and new lenses are fastened with better screws. This zoom will be one of the very best lenses you will ever use. Also in combination with a extention tube it is perfect.
As tou will know, the 28mm is also perfect corrected in flexcolor.
You have made a fine choise. i am still waiting for my 100mm 2.2.
Succes.

Alan, This is a wrong forum to anticipate any positive comments @ Hasselblad.   Contact your dealer & get into Flexframe forum, which allows only Hasselblad users. They are very very nice & supportive of helping other users. Here you will find nothing but bad comments @ Hasselblad....."EVERY user of 50-110 will have his front element fall off, because it happened to Michael(I believe 18months back) & max 8(no one knows for sure) others, so all the hundreds of 50-110 has to be horrible."   Give yourself a break & look up that Forum run by quite content & productive Hasselblad users. Have fun.

The forum is one of the best forum, I have the lens and I have problem with the lens, now Michael was very nice to find out how everyone was doing with the lens.

If I was Michael or maybe you(sean) ,my lens will be fixed without me spending any money, but I'm just a poor missible buyer the hasselblad don't care about what I need to say.
is cost me to get the lens fixed. Do I love the camera? I really ,really  do.
The Hasselblad care about customer..well didn't care about me so NO they don't care.  if you looking for honest response get it here.

Ok, as usual, the people with bad experiences always speak up the most and roar the loudest in the hope of eliciting a sympathetic response from the mfr. or just to simply vent. That's all fine. BUT  the comment about the Flexframe group is quite true. A worldwide network of mainly working pros (some serious non-pros as well) whose use of Hasselblad digital equip. runs the gamut. They know the stuff intimately, use it daily, and they'll be more than happy to give you as much help as you need in coming up to speed.

Leave here, go there.

I say I love the camera.  Before Michael have the problem I contact Hasselblad,
I called in tell them about the lens (50-110)all the problem I have..
I went step by step with all the problem. all they tell me without looking the lens I droped it.  I tell them if I send the lens and don't have any proof the was drop can they fixed it without me paying for .  they just say NO,,lens was droped.
Are they care about customer?  I have hasselbad h1 before Michael, and I have the problem before he's report..So why people in here will not tell the true?

yes, leave this horribly biased forum and look for the openmindedness of the hasselblad forum, where everybody comes together to sing the praises all day long....here you will only find experiences shared by crazy unprofessionals and other wackos who have joined the underground movement against hasselblad....

remember: questioning the president is unpatriotic!

i think the best would be to just enjoy your new kit....take some great pics and if you have any problems, refer to the hass. forums, where people will have more experience with the little secrets every system has.....

and if your front element falls off, whatever you do, do not mention it here, because it is simply not true....never happened (ok, maybe once or twice.....but that does not mean anything...really....)

one advice that might really come in handy: if the camera freezes, take the battery out and put it back in.....(not that that has ever happened to a sane, working professional...ever....)

The Hasselblad forum bears no resemblance to this description. It's an excellent forum where the users are savvy and attentive. Constructive criticism abounds on the Hasselblad forum, as well as praise. This forum is not an internal Hasselblad forum, nor is it is necessarily closed to non-Hasselblad members. It is moderated by Nick Tressider, a Hasselblad user.

Alan,

I have the 28, 50-110 and H3D 39 and a bunch of my old Zeiss lenses. So far, all lense elements are intact. Hasselblad service has been excellent but I'm sure that mine must be a freak experience.

Steve's advice to join the Flexframe forum is good. It's the best place to get straight info on this gear.

Since changing from a 503, I have found the H3D to be a stellar camera. It's a joy to use and produces great images.

I have my H3D39 for a few months and have good experience with HCD28m, I think it is quite sharp, and compact, compare to other HC lenses. I think the system is fast and responsive, but I have problem develop much love affair with the Flexcolor as well as how the H camera was designed and engineered - compare against Contax 645 that I also use with P45, the Contax is a superior camera to me, except its autofocus is not as fast but that does not bother me much.
The overall sharpness and the correction from the system is nice, I hope Hasselblad improve the software more. Besides 2HCD 28mm, I also got 35, 80, 50-110, 100 and 150, all of them are quite good, I did not use long enough to experience lens issue, but H3D39 once tethered to a computer of more recent upgrade of software, it won't work with other computer of older software unless you choose to downgrade the camera??  This is something they need to look at to fix it. I think for whatever version of software, one should always be able to shoot, and when it happened, the camera freezed, you will need to remove the Firewire line and remove the battery to wake up the camera again. But other than the software issue and the logic behind the system, I found shooting CF card with H3D39 a strong system. What I do exepct, is in stead of rely on camera power, H system can design something much smaller and lighter and use Firewire port to supply the power to the back and give the back more portable function when use with platform with movement.
