Invitation for Iceland (july 2007)
« on: May 04, 2007, 07:23:56 am »

Hello everyone,

I plan a trip to Iceland for this summer and I would like to sent out this invitation to anyone that is interested and has the desire to do landscape photography in this amazing country.
We would be renting a real 4x4 car in order to leave the main road
and explore deeper into the country. Costs of the 4x4 and gas shall be divided amongst us.
I'm looking for 1 or 2 people to make the trip, I should note that we would be mostly camping and once in a while sleeping in rooms.
The idea is to go there during summer solstice and to be out during the
golden light hours were artic summer sun will provide 24 hours a day of
light. We will try to be out as much as possible during these time periods:9pm-12pm and  3am-6am. Those hours will be of course mostly dedicated to photography  and in between we will drive, walk or photograph some more, meaning mostly little sleeping at night that would be done whenever possible.
If you are interested please contact me at photo@emmanuelcoupe.com for more information

Hi Emmanuel

My friend Steve Ginn and I going to Iceland on June 21st.  We will be on the island from the morning of the 22nd to the morning of July5th.  We are going clockwise around the island.  You can follow here (when we get an Internet connection):

Drop me a note and we'll make a rendezvous with you if you'll be there at the solstice.  We are both going for extensive landscape photography.  We opted for staying in "Farm houses" (smallish would-be-a-hotel-anywhere-else places).  We'll be geotagging all of our images, shooting some HDR, panoramas (even cubic 360s for me) and I'll be following all of it with HD video.

Your photos of Greece and Scotland are quite amazing.  Great eye.  I applaud you.

Cheers, Rusty Jackson

We'll be at the Hotel Loftleiðir in Reykjavík on Friday night the 22nd (arriving that morning)... just in time for the "pub crawl" as I understand it.

So get some rest, you'll need it. Come find us and we'll tell some tall tales.

I really have no time to rest. My stay there will be just for 5 days. I need to make the most of it. I have no idea where and when I'm going to sleep but the back seat of the rental car is looking a good option right now

I will arrive on the 21st sometime in the afternoon and my plan is to leave Reykjavik as soon as I get my hands on the car...probably I'll drive straight to the south coast. It may be a nice city but that's not really why I'm going to Iceland.

But hey...we can still see each other even not knowing it    We will probably ending up in the same places, although you have time to see them more extensively.

Now lets hope that they open the road that crosses the interior of the country. It's not open yet as I write this. I really didn't want to go all the way around the ring road to visit lake Myvatn and the interior looks interesting too.

If I had only five days in Iceland, I'd spend it all wandering along the south coast, and getting to Thingvellir, Skaftafell, Landmanalaugar, Vik, etc. The Myvatn area is nice, but judging from my trip there in 1974, there's so much more spectacular stuff mostly just a little East of Reykjavik.

Have a great time, both of you, and show us some pix when you get back!

Thanks a lot Eric.

I want to go to Myvatn area not only for the lake but also for Krafla and Godafoss. For the pictures I've seen, Godafoss is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland...and they have plenty.

I have things well planned. Of course, things never go according to plans but I think I can go everywhere I want in 5 days...specially because those will be LONG days.

I will not be making the trip to Iceland this summer after all. I have instead opted to make a long 3-month journey across the US and 2 weeks in the Canadian Rockies.
Iceland will have to be for next year. Ian Cameron a Scottish photographer and I are seriously considering doing the trip to Iceland next June-July.
It would be give me time to better prepare, I had my heart set on Iceland but just couldn't happen this time.
Wish you guys a pleasant trip and many good photos.
Cheers
