preceeding zero's in filename - how?
« on: May 02, 2007, 05:44:43 pm »

I'm trying to use Lightroom to sort files into the correct order before renumbering them. It will let me create a 'user order' if I'm in folder view and it will let me renumber the files but only without preceeding zero's. When I then choose 'file name' as the viewing order it is all over the place with number 10 after number 1 instead of 2 etc. I'm on Mac's is there a workaround until this bug gets fixed or have I missed the obvious?

Damien.

You can set the file no, sequence to start 1, 01, 001, 001. I always use 001 to get around OSs that cannot count.
You can do all sorts of interesting renaming in LR Though it's not too obvious how, so read the help files.

Would be good if it worked! Lightroom strips the preceeding zeros for some reason. I ask for 001 as the sequence start point and get just 1. Has anyone found a workaround?

I use a similar numbering system. Attached is a screenshot of the template I use, hope this helps. It gives you a filename of 2007-0001.jpg and so forth. To change the '2007' to what you want simply change the custom text box, you can also choose the start number.

I need it to rename a custom sequence within lightroom on a Mac. I'm having to start my numbers at 1001 and it's a bit duff.

I really hated that about Lightroom during the Beta -- so much so that I simply went back to Aperture and have never looked back. I'll be keeping an interested eye on this though in the hopes that you find an easy solution (which really should just be a preference setting IMO, especially since the Mac you're working on is quite happy to deal with preceeding zeros)..

That killed it for me, but there was a lot to like about it as well..

It will have to get sorted soon, so I'm going to wait for the fix. Lightroom is halving our production time and is far too valuable a resource to give up on. I like the DNG thing too as sidecar files are annoying.
