raw conversion artifact- help!
« on: May 01, 2007, 01:58:25 pm »

Hi, this is a problem I'm having in photoshop- I'll also post in image processing, but perhaps someone here could help me.  I have an evening hong kong skyline image, and when I process the raw file in photoshop, the lights have a black border around them, making them look very stark and artificial.  I shoot in Raw+jpeg and the jpeg image from my camera does not have this effect.
I've tried many different adjustments and none of the books I have on raw processing discuss this issue.

I've attached detail clips from both the jpeg produced by my camera and the raw file converted in photoshop.  The photo was shot on canon 5d, 24-105 f/4 lens, at 1000 iso.

Thanks!

I'd say you need to ease up on the sharpening. A lot.

Also, when showing people comparisons of such issues it makes things far easier and improves the chance of solving the issue if you give examples that are of the same size and preferably, 100% crops.

Detailing your adjustment parameters would also help.

Yikes!  The sharpening was the problem.  Now I feel really stupid.  But smart people aren't afraid to ask stupid questions, right??

Thanks so much!
