Couple of photos from my trip to India
« on: April 26, 2007, 10:22:56 am »

Update:

http://www.plecxus.com/gallery/India-Hindistan?page=1

I just added India photos to my gallery(it has 1000 selected photos now) . This  gallery is including both documentary and interpretive photos of India both daily life and architecture. I will create a seperate "best of " gallery when i have time. Most of these photos include slight color correction and proportional cropping here and there. I used lightroom to make all those changes.

Timeline of these photos are reversed, so generally photos in the smaller numbered page are later date of my trip(exception applies on to first couple of pictures in page )

The cities i had visited

Pushkar
Acmer
Agra
Varanasi
Haridvar
Rishikesh
Dharamsala
Amritsar
Jaipur

Comments and critics are welcome.
I have more pictures, but i am yet going through them and it is taking time to really pick good ones.
I used nikon d100+nikkor 28-28 during my trip.

Your images are masterpieces of graphic design.  Every single one is powerful in that respect.  The other side of the coin is that they don't convey a sense of India as a special way of life or place to live.  We all make our choices about what attracts our eye, & you're following a strong & fruitful inclination!

Hi Thompsonkirk

Thank you for compliments and critics. I was actually aware of your critic before you mentioned. I guess that is also very critical point when it comes to art of photography. Did i really miss the objective here or did i try to come up with an alternative reality of what idea of India could be? I personally feel like i am somewhere in the middle with these samples

But on the otherhand i thought India was all about colors so i tried to catch colors in details. Althou these pictures are very small percentage of what i had shot there so i actually have more pictures of life in India, i am hoping that i will post all of them on my web site very soon (some %30 is available on my web site

Not a critique; but just a thought.

Except for the 4th image, the rest of the images could have just been shot elsewhere as well...how do we know that they were shot in India? Is there anything region specific about these that you wish to showcase?

Hi usathyan

Well, i was in India and i shot them in India, it cannot be from somewhere else

Because these could have been from somewhere else does really mean that you can take exact these pictures somewhere else ?

On the otherhand i personally do not believe that i should be taking pictures to represent India, i went there to take pictures, take pictures of what i believe is beautiful or meaningful. So these pictures are result of my personal experience as an observer,  not a cultural catalogue. Are not there enough beautiful Indian portraits around ?

I take your point and critic fully and i will show rest of the collection that will display more "life and culture in India" when i am done with picking through and i will ask for more critic. I am just trying to expand the conversation because i think that this debate can bring more fruitful ideas about photography and definition of artist.
