Just upgraded from a Samsung 193p to a NEC 2690 with the SpectraViewII option.

Initial installation was a bit flakey - because I hadn't updated the drivers for the ATI All In Wonder 9000 video card.  The display kept cutting out after a minute or so, but by setting the resolution back to 1280x1024 I was able to keep it visible long enough to download and install the new drivers.

The callibration using the included Colorimeter (Greytag Macbeth Eye One v2 I think) and the included software (which came with no hard copy manual or even quick start guide) was relatively intuitive.  The first thing you notice pre callibration is how blindingly bright the monitor is.  They give you several customizable options in terms of brightness and I used the Digital Cinema at 48.0 cd/m2.  For some reason the default gamma was 2.6 so I backed it back to 2.2.  I should note that the documentation and their support site explicitly say Vista 64 bit is not supported.

I have to say that compared to callibrating the Samsung this was a pleasure.  With the Samsung I had to eyeball the brightness and contrast adjustments.

After using this for an evening, I couldn't imagine going back to anything smaller.

Tim I'm sorry to hear that.  I'm sorely tempted by this monitor and I was hoping you'd have something bad to say about it.  ;-)

48 cd/m² sounds very dark.  I calibrate my 2090uxi to 100cd/m², and I work in a fairly dim room.  (Also D65, gamma 2.2...)

Note that Colorcomp was turned off by default on my monitor and had to be enabled in the OSM.
