Epson blues...the color
« on: April 04, 2007, 11:01:17 am »

I've never been totally satisfied with the blues I get on Epson printers, particularly, in the skies. Isolated objects etc that are blue, are fine in most cases.

I find that large fields of blue reveal the weakness of the rendition of this color. They just don't satisfy me at all. So much so that I avoid shooting on days when the sky is totally clear.

I use IP 6 on a 4800. I'm wondering if you guys feel the same way about this. I mostly print using PK on some of the newer paper base gloss papers.

any good recipes out there for getting a more satisfying blue using Epson printers?

I've read that the Canon printers produce better blues and Im wondering if anyone has any crafty PS methods for creating a blue that isn't flat, boring when printed with an Epson. Just seems to be missing something.

Thanks

I found that blues with the canned IP 6 profiles were off on my Epson 2200 (different profiles, different printer -- I know). A custom profile fixed the problems. The canned IP profiles aren't bad but there are some weaknesses (reds is another area).

Thanks Chan,

Anyone have any great resources for custom printer profiling? I'm not interested in doing it myself.

Does Andrew Rodney still make profiles? Is there anyone out there that is hands down better than the pack?

Hi Pete,

Andrew still does (and he posts on this forum from time to time). I've heard Cathy's Profiles also recommended (see http://www.cathysprofiles.com/). InkJetArt also has a profiling service (see http://www.inkjetart.com/custom_profiles/). I also offer custom profiles, though we should probably discuss that offline (e.g., send me a PM or email).

I do too - but I don't advertise here. Steve Upton (Chromix) is one of the good ones too. And Andrew of course
