30D OR 5D?
« on: March 30, 2007, 01:18:00 pm »

Hello, I'm using 350D but now I want to change since I make photography for professional use.

I'm undecided between 30D or 5D. I would ask to someone who use them: features, values and flaw of both of them.

I make theater photos, so there is usually few light (I use lenses as 70-200 f2.8 or 24-70 f2.8).

Thank you!

Michela, You might wait for the 30D replacement camera, which is inevitable.  Probably will be named the 40D.  I think the decision between the 30D and the 5D is easy -- the 5D, if you can afford the extra cost.  Given what you are doing, the advantage the 5D might have over the prospective 40D may not be large at all -- we will have to wait and see.

Main advantages of the 5D over the 30D are (there may be others):
1) higher resolution
2) better high ISO performance
2) full frame -- makes better use of wide angle lenses

Advantages of the 30D (and 40D) over the 5D would be:
1) higher pixel density, crop sensor -- giving you more from the your telephoto lenses.

In addition to what's been said above, the 5D's larger viewfinder is also a major benefit IMHO.
