multiple images: depth of field - automated
« on: March 26, 2007, 06:41:45 pm »

i have been playing around with some still lifes that i'd like to have a great depth of field with. i am aware of the technique of using multiple takes and "painting" into layer masks to composite the multiple shots. here's an example :http://www.photomigrations.com/articles/0603200.htm

the problem is some of the objects in the shots are very tricky, and time consuming to "paint in" ... say for example branches in the foreground. so the technique is too cumbersome if the images are complex with items in the fore, middle and back that each have complex shapes.

what i am wondering - is there any other technique or plugin/tool that provides more flexibility when compositing multiple takes of a shot at different focal depths?
