P45 micro blurred
« on: March 19, 2007, 03:06:46 am »

I tested a P45 with Mamiya 645 and I' ve seen that is really easy make a micro blurred with 1/30 sec. With tripod too...
Is anybody that make portarits or fashion pictires have the same problem?
Normally I use open f 2,8 and soon, slow time like 1/30 to 1/8 for portarits.

Other Question... I would like change my contax system with mamiya system becouse I think that after 5 years if I have a contax back it will be really difficoult sell it.
But I'm warried about the quality lenses.
Contax are very good for film, but with digital so so...
Mamiya?

If mamiya will make a 35 mm for RZ it could be a good Idea?! Or not?
Mamiya RZ is a really MF camera!!!

I do not really see your point, in 5 years, which is a long time in digital terms, both Mamiya and Phase may not be here, or just maybe you will still be using the Contax with the latest Phase, who knows.

Personally i do not see any benifit changing to Mamiya for the lenses as the Contax are just fine, have you actually tried them with a digital back? If you just don't get on with the camera then fine, however the optics are not a weak point, in fact i just bought back into the Contax for the P30+ mainly so i could use the lenses again.

Use what works now and forget about what might happen in 2 or 3 or 5 years otherwise you would never invest in anything.

For most critical macro/mirco work at slower shutter speeds it is almost always
neccessary to use a mirror lockup/pre-release function.

Simply using a tripod does not guarantee vibration free images whick,at 1/30 second,
is what I would guess is causing your blurred results

Here are some tips for getting sharp images at slower speeds:

1) Mirror lockup/pre-release as suggested in the previous post.
2) Precise focus, especially at wide apertures -- you will need to do some tests to see if you are getting slight front/back focus and compensate.  The P45 is not very forgiving.
3) Very sturdy tripod and ballhead depending on focal length, distance, etc.

Regarding the last point, we have seen this with the longer lenses.  For the Mamiya 645 with 250mm+ we have needed to go to a Dutch Hill carbon fiber and ARCA SWISS B1G.

With shorter lenses, the Gitzo 3-series and B1 has worked fine.

Hope this helps.
