Just wanted to say break a leg or whatever for good luck with your new gallery...the image looks great...clean well lighted space/place...

Now, shouldn't all the forum posters get a free print or something in celebration of it?

Great idea! How about one free print for each 200 posts?

Well done on taking the leap and setting up your own space.

The nit picker in me is intrigued, looking at the picture of the Print studio, at how different the colour temperature is between the print proof viewing board next to the printer and the lighting on the prints in the gallery.

Is this just exaggerated by the response of the camera?

Regards,

Richard

The viewing box is D50; daylight color balance, while the gallery's print lights are incandecent – probably about 4K colour temperature, Phillips's so-called "Natural" P30 bulbs.

When you make prints there is always the issue of what the light under which it will be viewed is like. Will it be the warm lighting in someone's den (likely halogens), the florescents in an office, or the diffuse daylight in a dayroom?

What I do is print for D50 and then let it go at that. It's a compromise. Also, current inks and fine art matte papers have little metamerism so not that much shift is seen.

Congratulations Michael! What a great looking gallery.

I must say that the snappy yellow posts remind one of certain jackets ...

Michael,

I think this is exciting news for many of us. Best wishes. I am planning to be up some time later this year or early next. I need to experience your place "in the flesh". It seems like a perfect blend of concepts.

Congrats!

How about hiring a couple of penguins to act as gallery attendants?

Er... you would have to burn a LOT of incense to mask the, ummm... "scent" of their guano.  That's something you can't convey in a photo (sometimes for good, sometimes for bad) with a photo, but believe me... we knew when we were coming to an iceberg with penguins... miles before we could see them

Now I know why the ones I've seen in aquariums have been behind glass.

Looking at the gorgeous photos you and Michael and Jeff and the others have brought back makes me think the inconvenience of the scent (and the Drake crosssing) are well worth it.

I'd love to get there some day!

My wife and I popped by to look in the Luminous-Landscape  window Tuesday afternoon. We were in Toronto for a couple of days and took a gamble - no one was there - which was fine. It looks like you have the type of work and display space that any photographer would love to have. Hope it works out well.

All wasn't in vain. A couple of doors down from Luminous-Landscape is an  Epson sign and inside the shop we found some nice prices on Epson inks, papers and even printers - - - and what looks like a great custom printing service for big enlargements using Epson papers like Epson Somerset Velvet. Yacked with the owners for a while. He said they work 24 hour days there and have excellent custom profiles and a lot of knowledge for fixing Espon printers. Nice for getting a break from the cool breeze too.

Sorry I missed you.

I'll be there Friday and all weekend if you're still in town.

Well it looks like I will be able to get to Toronto on Saturday to see the new space! I'm really looking forward to it!
