Importing RAW files CameraRAW Settings
« on: March 12, 2007, 09:23:47 pm »

I know this must have been covered before.

So I've got loads of RAW files with XMP sidecars from Bridge/CameraRAW.

Many are from earlier versions of CameraRAW

Can I get LR to take these previous setting into account during Import?

<I know that I can set up LR to create XMPs with LR settings>

I don't know about Lightroom, but if you run the DNG converter on a folder that contains both the camera RAW file and xmp file data from the xmp file will be included in the DNG file and then you only have one file per image and it contains your slider settings.

Well I worked it out very easily.

As soon you check the box "write changes to xmp" in File Management in Preferences, LR will do a big rewrite of the library and adds xmps to all raw files (I'm presuming these are independant of the Library and are updated by the library - i.e. the info is also stored in the library and not just the xmp).

Then when you import old RAW files from folders with Camera RAW xmp files, then all the develop settings (as best translated to LR?), ratings, keywords are imported to LR.

Perfect.
