I have a P21 on a mamiya 645 afd 2 and it's great, perfect integration. Great lenses, sharp, handles nice, looks a bit plasticy, personally I dont care a monkeys about that, but if you do the contax is prettier. It's cheap too. Seems to me the obvious choice unless you need fast synch.

- thanks, after looking at the brochure the Mamiya has an Magnesium Allow viewfinder
& Die-Cast aluminum body - I just feel nervous about the H2 or H3 electronics.

i use the P30 on the 645adII and one the RZ with the phase adapter.....the integration is phantastic, as long as oyu remember to turn the back on the camera and the back talk, the camera won't fire if the back isn't ready (so you will have to turn it on:) )....only drawback is the 1/125 sync, but with the RZ i don't have that problem....af is ok, as good as any other MF af, useless compared to canon/nikon.....

the P30 is simply amazing, fast, versatile, great color, clean, it just works..every time..software is the best anyway, although i find myself using LR nowadays....

i haven't had any problems with any of my mamiyas, ever...the 645 does not feel as nice as a rollei, but it is lighter and you can get a back-up on ebay for under 1000$....lenses are very good, easily keep up with anything else out there, not as good as schneider, but what is....and again, much, much cheaper....
with the option to put the P30 on the RZ, i really can't find anything wrong with the set-up....some say the mamiya feels plasticy...you will have to judge that for yourself....it is very well made and like i said i have never had any problems...everyhting is where you expect it to be.....

i was looking at contax as well, it was the fact that i had had a mamiya 645afd before (with no problems) and that i felt some lens and accessory prices were going a little high for the contax, so i went with mamiya.....if the contax would have faster sync, i would have gone that way.....

Thanks Paul, I'll probably go with the Mamiya AFD - after years of shooting
I really did not need flash sync past 1/125, although it would have been
nice to have. I see you use Livebooks, I just join with them last month,
I'm really digging the ftp features.

Hi
I own both the AFD & AFDII. Get the AFDII it has a better shutter in it & you can seperate the focus from the shutter release. You can have the focus on the front or rear of the camera body. Keep spare AA batteries but you should get well over a 1000 shots for a set of 6 AA batteries. the 150, 80 & 120 lenses are really sharp. The 55-110 is great but I feel it is a little soft wide open. I still use the 55-110 the most. I always have a back up body just in case one fails. You can get AFD bodies quite cheap on ebay.
Thanks Denis

how do you seperate the focus from the shutter? front or rear of body? not sure i understand, i would like to though...
i have 2 80s, 2 150s, 2afdIIs, the 35mm and the 55-110....i a getting rid of one afdII, 80 and 150....now that i use th RZ a lot more then i thought i would....i am really waiting for the new zoom, not that the 55-110 is not good, but it could be better and the way i use the 645 now (handheld) the zoom really is the best lens for it....also the new one is slightly longer 75-150, which will owrk better for me....i am totally amazed by the quality of the lenses in general....they are sharp, great color and contrast.....maybe they lack "character" which is actually something i personally like in lenses.....and the prices are unreal....

Hi
Go to the manual in the custom function ( 18 or 19 ). You program the focus seperate from the shutter there. I have mine set at the rear so it is the same as my Canon.

Another reference, I've been using the Mamiya AFD (not II) with the P45 for just over one year with no problems of any kind.

Thanks everyone for your repiles ~ sounds like the Mamiya is a Toyota, great quality
& keeps on going & the H1 H2 is a BMW or Mercedes, expensive & very nice but it goes
in for repair more often.

I don't think Mamiya is Toyota and H1 H2 is a BMW or Mercedes.

I would say Mamiya is AUDI and works very good with a little bit of problems here and there or none at all.
